FORMATION ORDER NO 7:
RHODESIAN ARMOURED CORPS

AIM

1. The aim of this order is to outline the formation, organisation and roles of the Rhodesian Armoured Corps.

2. The Rhodesian Armoured Corps (RhAC) consists of The Depot and the Rhodesian Armoured Car Regiment (RhACR) :

FORMATION

3. RhAC was formed on 1 July l972. The regiment consists of members of the Regular and Territorial Army. Dep RhACR consists of Regular Army Personnel and National Servicemen.

ROLES

4. The roles of the RhACR are to train members posted to RhACR, to a standard which will enable them assume duty as trained members of the RhACR

5. The roles of the Dep RhACR are to for and be prepared to take part in the following types of operation:

a. COIN/ISOPS

i.    Curfew patrols.
ii.   Flag marches.
iii.  Crowd dispersal and follow up.
iv.    Road Blocks.
v.     Cordons
vi.      Communication tasks.
vii.    Traffic Control.
viii.  Fire Support.
ix.      Escout Duties.
x.        Guarding of vulnerable points.
xi.      Reconnaissance.
xii.    Demolishing enemy strong points.
xiii.  Urban and rural operations in the Infantry role.

b. CLASSICAL WAR

i.   Reconnaissance

(a) Advance to contact
(b) Battle reporting.
(c) Maintaining a line of surveillance

ii. Delaying action in the withdrawl.
iii. Flank guards.
iv. Deep penetration.
v. Exploitation of gaps in the advance.
vi. Disruption of the enemy in the pursuit
vii Destruction of enemy armoured vehicles.

6. With these roles in mind, it is important that:

a. Each squadron can operate independently.
b. The regiment can operate as a unit.
