The Police Reserve Air Wing (PRAW)

The Police Reserve Air Wing performed light aviation services throughout the period of counter insurgency operations in Rhodesia. Members used their own private aircraft and were paid by the flying hour for doing so. Although they were a Police Unit, most of the time they came under the direction of the Air Force at the Forward Airfields to which they were deployed.

Their duties included transport (mostly personell), casevac, air recce.

They enjoyed this job and spent many hours with the Air Force.
This article by Mike Simpson really illustrates why they liked to be there, helping out.

Note from the Web Master

If anyone out there can provide a course photograph or any other material relating to the Police Reserve Air Wing, please let me know. They were some of the unsung heroes when we got really busy and deserve a better mention than we can give them at the moment.
